2008 Debsconeag Five-Day Winter Trip
This is a 40 mile trip through some of the most scenic and remote areas of the North Maine Woods. It is likely that there will be very minimal snow machine activity, and with this in mind it is also likely that we will be breaking trail for the majority of this trek. Mostly cross-country skiing with some snowshoeing where appropriate.
Starting points:
Option 1: Spencer Cove Ambajejus Lake - Big Moose Campground Mile 9 - Golden Rd
Option 2: At gated Bridge on road into Ambajejus Falls (avoids Ambajejus Lake)
Ambajejus Lake to Penobscot River

Stop at the Boom House Museum – Continue up Penobscot past bridge (Option 2 starting point) to Passamagamet Lake – There are 2 established campsite along this stretch. Pass Passamagamet Falls on up the Penobscot to Debsconeag Deadwater

Debsconeag Deadwater to First Debsconeag Lake
(mile 8)
Continue to Second Debsconeag
(mile 11)
Follow un-named stream at west end of second Deb West North West towards Big Beaver Pond
(mile 15)
From Big Beaver Pond travel north to Little Beaver Pond and intersection with Appalachian Trail and Rainbow Lake
(mile 16)
Follow AT or cross Rainbow Lake going west end of lake – there are several campsites clustered at the west end of Rainbow Lake
(mile 21)
Follow AT and Rainbow Stream to Nahmakanta Lake
(mile 25)
Cross Nahmakanta Lake to outlet at southeast end
(mile 29)
Follow Nahmakanta Stream & AT to Pemadumcook Lake

Cross Pemadumcook Lake past Moose Cove, Lone Pine Pt, and Burnt Island

Cross Ambajejus Lake to Spring Cove, Big Moose Campground
